Homes have become offices and we are now planning for the future more than ever before
Backyards Have Become an additional Room
During the pandemic, our homes underwent some remarkable transformations—office, school, gym, asylum. The backyard’s status became more exalted, a safe space where we could gather with a little more peace of mind. Folks are re-designing their spaces to help their families be outdoors in comfort.
In Hawaii, it’s a “no brainer” to bring creature comforts in our backyards by building covered
lanais and transforming them into recreation rooms, living rooms and kitchens. On the continent, where the weather is not so cooperative, homeowners are creating climate-controlled outdoor living spaces.

Retirement?
Whether you are 50 or 80, retirement is on all our minds. The children or grand-children are off to college, your home is paid off or nearly paid off, and you have big plans waiting to take shape. This past year has given most of us lots of time to reflect on the things that really matter.
For many, the pandemic has had a profound impact on retirement planning. For some, it has accelerated a desire to leave the workforce. For others, it has delayed those plans—financial anxiety has increased for lots of us. Many Americans were forced to take a good long look at their working lives, their transition to the “golden years,” and what they want ultimately out of life.
As tough as the last year has been, there are some positives. Planning for the future—
especially if something like this happens again—can mean big changes: better financial
planning, new career opportunities, and staying closer with our loved ones.
Maybe retirement can wait?
