National eviction moratorium extended through June 30, 2021
CDC extends national eviction moratorium
Due to another rise in the number of COVID-19 infections across the U.S., the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has extended the national eviction moratorium through June 30, 2021. “Keeping people in their homes and out of crowded or congregate settings — like homeless shelters —by preventing evictions is a key step in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19,” according to the CDC Director.
Although the moratorium is a saving grace for millions of renters, it doesn’t offer automatic protection. Renters must meet an income cap ($98,000 for individuals, $198,000 for couples during 2020), prove they’ve sought out other rent assistance options, have tried to pay their rent to the best of their ability, and would be rendered homeless in the event an eviction took place.

Baseball Brings Hope
It is now officially Spring! Even if it’s sometimes difficult for those of us who live in paradise to distinguish between the seasons, we know for sure that Spring means baseball –both locally and nationally! As we complete a toned down “March Madness” basketball season, we are looking forward to seeing our boys and girls back on the diamond. Even if we can’t be there to watch in- person, we may get the next best thing: it looks like High School baseball may be played this year with cheering supporters watching remotely, either on TV or over the internet. Let’s keep those masks on so our infection rates stay low and our children can play!
Other COVID — or Anytime! — Activities
There is no time like the present to clean up our beaches. A recent clean-up sponsored by Native Apparel resulted in quite a bit of refuse being cleared from Makapu’u beach. As soon as more surf competitions are permitted, you’ll get to see more of volunteer cleaner extraordinaire Keagan Lime
(a.k.a. my grandson), who is one of Native Apparel’s sponsored surfers.
Also, if you feel the need to get away, why not try a staycation? Waikiki is beginning to fill up a bit with tourists, but many hotels are still offering great deals. The ocean is more beautiful than ever and is probably the easiest place to social distance! Here’s a tip: you may want to explore Ko’olina on the West Side, or one of the many North Shore resorts, and take advantage of limited occupancy.
