October 2023 | Energy Tax Rebates, Lower retirement debt

Tax Breaks

Many Americans will save thousands of dollars on home renovations when new rebates for a range of energy-efficient upgrades kick in later this year.

Buyers will receive the rebates as part of a $9 billion federal program passed by Congress in last summer’s Inflation Reduction Act. Household savings can range from hundreds of dollars for single items such as an electric cooktop or dryer to $8,000 for a heat pump or cutting home energy use by 35% or more. Those planning such projects may want to hold off until the program begins.

In Hawaii, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will determine the timing and the amounts of the rebates. The new rebate programs and enhanced tax credits are good through 2032.

Fast-track Your Mortgage Payoff, Lower Your Retirement Debt

When retirement looms, financial stability is a gnawing concern for most people. Have I saved enough? What will inflation do to my nest egg? Will Social Security remain solvent? What are the health wildcards I haven’t planned for?

As such, it’s wise to slash expenses and debt as much as possible, with the idea of entering retirement debt-free. For some, that means paying off the mortgage by accelerating their mortgage payoff.

Still, before deciding, understand the risks, make sure there is no prepayment penalty on your mortgage. Also, perhaps it makes more sense not to pay off your mortgage if the interest rate is low. Your dollars may better support your lifestyle if applied elsewhere. You don’t want to miss out on fun! (SRES.Realtor)

Football Season Rules Once Again

Whether you are following the pros, your favorite college team or local high school, football season is in high gear. I must brag a little. My grandson, Keagan Lime, (Receiver, Defense & Special Teams) plays his heart out each week with his teammates at Kaiser High School in Hawaii Kai. However, you feel about the game, it does a great job in bringing family and community together!

As always, I love to hear from you! Please don’t hesitate to call!

Thank you,

Judy
